Investment in People
  
Investment in our people has always been a core objective of Severn Partnership and is seen as the key foundation stone to the long term sustainability of the business. The directors have total committment to this investment at all levels, promote a culture of continuing professional development and routinely review and plan training activities at all levels within the organisation.

A wide range of training methods, techniques and courses are employed:-
  • all staff are regularly mentored by a senior manager or director
      
  • everyone joining Severn Partnership undergoes Induction over a 1 to 3 month period covering Health and Safety, Investors in People, use of equipment and computers, quality standards and working methods
      
  • this induction training is supplemented throughout an employees career by regular in-house training modules on new equipment, techniques and methods
      
  • all new staff receive extensive on-site training and must satisfactorily complete a number of practice surveys before they are allowed to work for customers
      
  • all staff benefit from a bi-annual review of their agreed personal training objectives which are directly linked to key outcomes form the company’s business plan
      
  • regular staff briefings, operational meetings, project briefings and debriefing are held using a standard framework
      
  • as appropriate, in-house training days are held, sometimes for the whole of Severn Partnership and have recently covered a wide range of issues including survey software training, First Aid, scanner operation and PTS middle and senior managers receive NVQ level management training courses
      
  • all staff involved working with customers receive training in strategic marketing and business development skills through involvement in workshops and projects
       
  • other training provided includes, Quality Assurance Training, Professional Institution APC training to Chartered level, Innovation Courses, Survey Association Surveying Courses as well as professional training from universities on a full and part-time basis
The Severn Partnership is an Investor in People Company (IIP) and has been since 2000. This is a national standard against which we are regularly benchmarked. We have also undergone the “Profiling Standard” developed by Investors in People, demonstrating our continued commitment to the standard and more significantly, showing us how we can improve into the future.

Training was given a high priority before we attained the standard in 2000 and we did not go down the IIP route “just for the badge” .

Adopting the standard has helped us to formalise our commitment to investing in our people and allowed us to move forward faster with the added benefit that we can regularly compare progress not only with our peers but with other similar industries.

25 years ago Severn Partnership was founded by two Chartered Surveyors living in Shrewsbury, one from South Africa and one more local, but both having travelled extensively across the World.

They slowly and carefully built up the company, initially relying on Salopians but increasingly taking the best people from across the UK and from as far a field as Spain, Germany and Poland.

We believe in this diversity and value not only the different surveying skills it brings, but also the positive influences bought to the team through exposure to a wider range of cultures.

Our unique selling proposition will always be our people, who after our customers are our greatest priority.
