In common with bridges in the rail network, many embankments and cuttings were constructed at the turn of the century and need constant monitoring and remedial work to avoid catastrophic collapse. Our work in this area again demonstrates how a wide range of survey techniques and equipment can be combined to create survey drawings quickly and efficiently. We employ RTK GPS to survey fence boundaries and slope changes; reflectorless total stations to pick up track locations and OHLE wires without the need from on track access; manual pole readings for slope transects and static GPS to link to Ordnance Survey grid. In the office, we generate cross sections from our Digital Terrain Models and issue the data as 2D and 3D AutoCAD DWG files. Possible survey elements include:
We have also successfully installed and managed a number of embankment monitoring schemes, where targets are placed in the cess, the slope and the web of the rail and movement monitored to monitoring page> in real time to track potential slope failure. Previous surveys undertaken have varied from 100m to 53miles long. All surveys are tailored to suit the individual intricacies of differing clients, locations and specifications. Call us to discuss your requirements. |
