Environmental Agency

Severn Partnership employs Environment Agency approved surveyors and each year completes a number of flood defence, asset and river surveys. We are conversant with the latest Environment Agency specifications and are often called upon to install Environment Agency Bench marks utilising our GPS knowledge and equipment.

Our work in this area includes surveying lakes and settlement ponds (volume analysis and silt depth), small drainage ditches, streams, and large rivers including our close neighbour, the River Severn. We use our bespoke survey software n4ce to automatically generate river sections and & data reports; with the raw data being generated by a combination of the most efficient methods of data capture (Robotic total stations, smartnet and RTK GPS).

A typical watercourse survey requires river cross sections (with hard bed and top of silt levels), detailed points along the top of bank and waters edge, and a detailed level survey of the adjacent flood plain, roads and features. Our deliverables are then imported into the client’s flood risk assessment software for analysis.

Usually these surveys are linked by GPS to the O.S National Grid in plan and height, but can be specified to a local survey grid if required.

With respect to flood risk survey, we are well versed in dealing with the general public, gaining access for threshold levelling and identifying all the pertinent features.

As with all our work, health and safety is paramount, so we employ a range of boats, Canadian canoes, life preservers, dry suits and waders as appropriate for each project. We also resource river surveys with a third man on the bank; strictly for safety reasons.
