Highways

The surveying of the UK’s roads has been a core activity of Severn Partnership for many years. The experience we have developed while working alongside many of the country’s largest civil engineers, coupled with our expertise in new technology and software, gives us the capability to undertake the most complex and demand highways surveying project, all to the Department of Transport (DOT) highways specification.

Working closely in partnership with clients we are able to produce suitable survey specifications that ensures that the data we collect and deliver meets their requirements.

Our work has covered all aspect of the highways sector including trunk roads, motorways, car parks, residential, town and city centre and all associated structures.

Typical deliverables include:
  • Topographical survey
  • OS National Grid Links by GPS observations
  • Road markings and signage
  • Drainage survey
  • Visibility splays
  • As built survey
  • Bridge structures, elevations and cross sections
  • Plans as 2D, 3D DXF, or DWG
  • Moss genio files
  • Registered point clouds if required
We also use remote survey techniques to avoid the need for traffic management, road or lane closure; using robotic reflectorless total stations, or laser scanners.

The installation of a rigorous control network future proofs our work, and ensures that the local survey grid can be re-visited at a later date (setting out, verification or extension).

For larger areas or sites with difficult access, we can have used photogrammetry to great effect. This remote survey method can be an effective alternative to ground based survey methods.

Time on site is invariably costly. Our experienced survey teams can action the specification efficiently, minimising your costs, while still adhering to methods of best practice which guarantee quality.
